Marriage License Laws - State of Ohio
Before License - No blood test, physical exams or eye witnesses are required.
Where to apply - Both bride and groom must apply together. In-state residents must apply in the county they live and can be married anywhere in the state. Out-of-state residents apply in the county they are being married.
Waiting period - There is no waiting period in Hancock, Lucas or Wood Counties as long as court is satisfied and applicants have met all legal requirements. The marriage license is good for 60 days.
Proof of residency - Lucas county residents must prove they are a resident. Wood county music show Driver’s License, state ID card, utility bill or lease or bank statement showing the local address.
Legal Age without parental consent - 18
Proof of age - in Lucas county a valid government issued picture ID such as; drivers license, state ID, passport or military ID is acceptable for both applicants. If under 21, a certified birth certificate listing parents names are required. Wood County accepts a drivers license, state ID card, birth certificate, or passport to verify both identification and age.
If either person had been divorced - In Hancock, Lucas or Wood Counties, a copy of the divorce decree, dissolution or annulment papers signed by the judge with a court file stamp is required. Information concerning other divorces is requested by not required.
If a previous spouse died - Lucas county requires a certified death certificate listing the applicant as the surviving spouse. Hancock and Wood Counties do not require a death certificate.
