A Non-Traditional Reception - The Cocktail Reception
If your looking for a less formal reception than the traditional seated dinner, consider the cocktail reception. It's fun,
sophisticated and only last about 3 hours.
In the first hour, welcome your guests by serving wine and other drinks. Have food stations set up with hors d'oeuvres such as
sushi, bruschetta and canapes. During the first hour, newlyweds are announced or the receiving line takes place. At that time
the couple segue into their first dance.
About 15 minutes into the second hour, the host, and/or the bride and groom make a welcoming speech followed by the toasts.
After the toasts, dancing will be underway. In the second hour, serve more substantial foods from the food stations. Offer a
simple menu of mini filet mignon with potatoes gratin and chicken skewers.
Wind things down in the final hour by closing the food stations (bars remain open). In this hour, newlyweds will cut the
wedding cake. Offer bite sized sweets like lemon bars and truffles while passing plates of the cake. Serve coffee and tea. The
last dance is played and the bride tosses her bouquet. The bride and groom leave to celebrate their union. |
